The Next Laptop Moment

Quick one here. I came back to this article recently, written by a rep whose agency I respect and worked alongside for years. Rob tells the story of being a sales right as availability reports and personal computers first came online. That shift catapulted his business, even in a low-snow year, to winning over accounts that had been loyal to someone else for decades.

Hoka Hey: Do One Thing Right. Repeat.
Rob Garrett

When I read this in 2025, I thought that's super cool, and moved on. Then a couple weeks ago it came back to me, and now I can’t stop drawing the comparison to Brio.

The Laptop, Rewritten

If Rob's article got rewritten for 2027, Brio is the laptop. The reps of today are up against a version of that same moment with a different set of headwinds:

  • Tight open-to-buy budgets
  • More competitors than ever
  • More sales reps, period
  • More really good sales reps
  • A shorter snow-selling window, thanks to warming trends, supply chain, and every other macro factor that I try to forget by 9AM.

What's Coming

I can't help but wonder what the next few years look like once a tool like Brio is actually in the hands of reps, buyers, and suppliers at scale. It's time to scale the backend of this business. Get out there, on snow, on the bike, spend real time with your accounts. That's the part of the job worth protecting, and it's the part Brio is built to protect.
